ABOUT ME

I have been making violins since 2009.  My instruments are based on the work of makers from the 17th and 18th centuries from Northern Italy.  I use traditional methods of work, using hand tools to shape the wood and make my purfling from oak gall dyed pearwood and Poplar.

I finish the violins by burnishing / smoothing with “horsetail” reed and leather before varnishing.  The varnish is based on traditional recipes of natural resins, madder lake and linseed or walnut oil.  The instrument is then set-up and adjusted to best bring out the innate qualities of the violin and the preferences of the musician.

For me violinmaking is both a technical craft and artistic expression. My instruments are made to allow the musician the flexibility to express the full range of musical intention and emotion, from great power and forcefulness to the intimate and subtle.

Let me work with you to make an instrument that you will love.
